South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp has momentum on his side heading into 2017, thanks to some surprise success from last season and a breakout freshman QB in Jake Bentley.

During Monday’s SEC teleconference, Muschamp talked about the team’s success and where they could stand to improve heading into the season.

Muschamp on spring in Columbia:
“We have a lot of knowns on offense, still have some unknowns on defense. Made some strides on special teams. Have confidence in the talent but not yet the experience.”

How comfortable are you at No. 2 QB behind Jake Bentley?
“Every freshman will have the ability to compete. If they are the best player, they will play. Michael (Scarnecchia) has a good arm… Every player has to be ready to step in and play. I have confidence in him.

On Rawleigh Williams:
“Extremely disappointed. I was the defensive coordinator in the game he got hurt versus Auburn… Regardless of whether they are on your team or not, you don’t ever want to see that happen.”

On proposed redshirt rule, which would allow freshmen to play several games in their freshman season, but retain redshirt status:
“Absolutely, I think that would be a great rule. When an injury happens or you are thin at a position. Sometimes you don’t know if a guy is ready until you see them on the field.”
