Bob Stoops is still connected to the Oklahoma program, and on Sunday, it was confirmed that he’ll be the interim coach after Lincoln Riley reportedly left for Southern Cal.

The team was informed on Sunday afternoon during a meeting, sources told The Athletic. Riley and Stoops each attended.

Stoops coached Oklahoma from 1999-2016. He led the Sooners to the national title in just his second season, in 2000, and coached last with the Dallas Renegades of the XFL. During his time at Oklahoma, he led the Sooners to 10 Big 12 titles. His brother Mark is the head coach of Kentucky.

This will be Oklahoma’s first real coaching search since Stoops was hired in 1999, as Stoops hired Riley as his offensive coordinator in 2015 and then helped choose him as his successor in 2017.
