Paul Finebaum ruffled some feathers Monday on his show regarding a comment he made about Miami.

A caller named Kenny from West Virginia called Finebaum to discuss the alleged Miami fan attacking the Florida band following Saturday’s game. The backstory — a Hurricanes fan allegedly attacked the Florida band director, Dr. Jay Watkins, following the game. Watkins was reportedly placed in a chokehold and slammed to the concrete, hitting his head. Another member of the band was allegedly punched in the face and had a bloody nose.

Anyway, Kenny wanted to discuss that story. Finebaum said he had heard it, and then, the SEC Network show host called Miami a “third world program.”

“I haven’t heard much, but I did hear about it,” Finebaum told the caller. “I don’t want to incite the crowd here, but when it comes to Miami, nothing surprises me. It’s a third world program if you ask me.”

Finebaum’s comments were picked up on social media, and fans weren’t too happy.

So, Finebaum offered a sincere apology to Miami and its fans on Tuesday’s show.

“Yesterday, we had quite a bit of conversation about the University of Miami,” Finebaum said. “In a conversation with a caller, I said some incredibly unfortunate things. This is where sometimes talk show hosts try to equivocate. They try to explain. They try to clarify. I’m not going to do that today, because once you say something, it’s done. You can’t take it back. I should know that. I’m a professional. I’ve been doing this a very long time. And what I said here yesterday was very hurtful for a number of people. For that, I sincerely apologize to all Miami fans and to the University of Miami. I wish I could take it back, but I can’t. All I can do is apologize and work very hard to avoid similar mistakes in the future.”
