Even without a run rule in the championship series of the Women’s College World Series, Oklahoma still left Texas reaching for mercy.

For the second straight game, Oklahoma leaned on its power hitters and won the national championship with a 10-5 victory in Oklahoma City. Texas delayed the celebration with a 3-run home run in the seventh inning.

On Thursday, Oklahoma was powered by a 4-run fifth inning, as the championship came into focus once the Sooners erased an early 2-0 lead by Texas. Oklahoma snapped the Longhorns’ six-game winning streak in elimination games since the start of the NCAA tournament. For the fourth time in the last 6 games, Oklahoma reached double figures. It’s the sixth national title for Oklahoma softball. The Sooners also returned the favor to Texas, which handed them their first loss after Oklahoma began the season, 38-0.

Beyond the bats, Oklahoma got a big lift from a home run-robbing catch by Jayda Coleman in the first inning. Then there was an emotional setting with 2 outs in the seventh inning when star Jocelyn Alo left the field for the final time.

In Monday’s Game 1 win, Oklahoma set a record for the largest margin of victory in WCWS history, with a 16-1 decision.

Oklahoma’s power hitters Tiare Jennings (4 for 5, two home runs, 5 RBI) and Alo (3 for 3, two home runs, 3 RBI) led the scoring surge by going a combined 7 for 8 at the plate with four home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored.
