Texas A&M and Texas continue to annually compete despite the two long-time rivals not meeting on the football field. The two athletic departments from the Lone Star State have both posted over $200 million in operating revenue for the 2017 fiscal year.

A&M posted a total operating revenue of $212 million according to financial records obtained by Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY. Texas reported a similar total of $215 million during the same period. Never before have two public universities reported over $200 million in operating revenue in the same year, according to Berkowitz.

With that much money in play at College Station, it’s no wonder the school had no problem parting way with over $10 million just to have Kevin Sumlin exit the program. His replacement, Jimbo Fisher, was then handed a $75 million, 10-year contract by the school.

Make no mistake, the Aggies are financially committed to building an elite program. Now comes the hard part, making visions of success a reality in College Station.
