Dabo Swinney has emerged a candidate for the Texas A&M head coaching vacancy, according to a report.
That’s per Brent Zwernemen, who covers Texas A&M for the Houston Chronicle. Swinney will coach Clemson on Saturday night in its regular season finale on the road at South Carolina.
Zwernemen’s report also mentions several other candidates for the job, including Ryan Day, Mike Elko and Jedd Fisch.
Swinney would be a fascinating hire for Texas A&M. He has won 2 national championships during his time at Clemson. However, the Tigers are in the midst of their worst season since 2010. Clemson enters Week 13 with 7-4 record on the year.
Swinney has been criticized by fans and media in recent years for not embracing changes in the college football landscape concerning NIL and the transfer portal. He also clashed with Clemson fans earlier this season after the Tigers started the year with a 4-4 record.
Texas A&M parted ways with Jimbo Fisher earlier this month. The Aggies’ regular season is now over following its loss to LSU on Saturday.
Texas A&M’s coaching search is expected to intensify over the coming days.
