Dan Patrick weighed in on the ongoing feud between Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban on Thursday morning, as Fisher’s comments came during Patrick’s syndicated radio show.

Patrick said if Saban had simply said Texas A&M was taking advantage of a loophole in the rules, and not cheating, it would have gone over differently. But then that would bring a point that Saban should ask, why aren’t we taking advantage of this loophole?

Patrick then said he would turn the question on Fisher, who called on people to ask about Saban’s past and how players were recruited.

“Jimbo, you were on his staff, how did you get players illegally,” Patrick said. “… This is where this plays locally really, really well. … You just said dig into his past, you’re part of his past.”

Patrick noted that Alabama will still be the No. 1 team in the country, and the favorite to win the national championship.

“This happens when you get in front of boosters,” Patrick said. “He wouldn’t say something like that if he was on this show, or if he was on ESPN. But when you’re in there, it’s almost like you’re in the football womb. It’s comforting. You’ve got a pep rally, you’ve got friendly fire here, everybody’s on your side.”
