There’s still four months until the early signing day. A lot can change, but Jimbo Fisher is certainly off to a great start on the recruiting trail at Texas A&M.

It helps that the Aggies have already landed 25 commitments, but they have a lot of quality too. Fourteen of those 25 recruits are at least rated as a 4-star prospect. With such quality and quantity, the Texas A&M 2019 recruiting class sits nationally at No. 3 on the 247Sports team composite ranking list.

When asked on Thursday about how he’s been able to experience so much recruiting success so early, Fisher gave an interesting explanation, partially crediting his good work to technology advancement.

“Back in the day, I think it took so much time because you couldn’t communicate,” Fisher said according to Brent Zwereman of The Houston Chronicle. “I mean, think about it. I always say this all the time, when you wanted to recruit a player, you called home and got Momma. ‘Is he home? No, he’s down the road with Johnny. Now he’s over here. He’s over here with Bob.’

“He wasn’t at home, and you called the coach. If he wasn’t at those two places, think about it, you could never talk to him. And if you weren’t by a phone, you know what I’m saying. And now, if you are sitting in a meeting, he texts you, you text him back, all the sudden, he calls you.

“I think that has opened that up so those things can be done much quicker.”

If Fisher continues to embrace 21st Century technology, Texas A&M could very well finish with its first Top 5 recruiting class since 2014. Two weeks before the season begins, the only teams with a higher rated 2019 recruiting class are last year’s national champion participants – Georgia and Alabama.
