Last year, Jimbo Fisher appeared at ACC Media Days and declared that the ACC was the “premier conference in college football.”

This year at SEC Media Days, the new Texas A&M coach took the podium in Atlanta and praised his new conference.

“The ACC, I think the level of play has gotten better because of the SEC. The people here in this league, it does just mean more, and it’s a very physical league,” said Fisher, who credited SEC programs for making recruiting more difficult while he was the coach at Florida State.

Fisher pointed out that the national championship he won with the Seminoles in 2013 came during a period of SEC dominance. The SEC won every national title from 2006-12, then claimed national championships again in 2015 and 2017.

While Fisher hasn’t previously been a head coach in the SEC, he’s not a stranger to the conference. He was the quarterbacks coach at Auburn from 1993-98 and was the offensive coordinator at LSU from 2000-06.

Fisher will now try to lead Texas A&M to success in a challenging SEC West division.
