Johnny Manziel made headlines Saturday after announcing he’ll sign a two-year agreement with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Obviously, Manziel’s goal would be to get back in the NFL, and the CFL is probably just the next stepping stone for that goal.

But it won’t be easy — it never is — after sitting on the couch for a couple of seasons. And Manziel’s new head coach, former SMU head coach June Jones, emphasized that following the signal caller’s announcement. In fact, Manziel will need to beat out former Oregon and Ole Miss QB Jeremiah Masoli, who is currently the team’s starting QB.

“Let me tell you something right now, he’s got his work ahead of him to beat out Jeremiah,” Jones said of Manziel, via TheNationalPost.

“He’s got a lot to catch up on, but he’ll spend the time to get that done. I know he will because he’s already learned that lesson.”

There is always a learning curve coming from college or the NFL to the CFL, but it’s not a major adjustment. Jones is just setting the expectation for the Manziel hype.

Jones’ wide open offense fits Manziel perfectly, and he should have a fun first year in the league. The Tiger-Cats first game will be on June 16. You can catch their full schedule here.
