On Saturday, former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel returned to the field to play in an NFL Spring League game, with mixed results.

While the former Heisman winner completed his first seven passes and threw a touchdown pass, he also took three sacks and only finished the game 9-for-15 for 82 yards.

After the game, Manziel commented on his performance, saying he wasn’t fully happy with the way he played, but adding he was glad to be back on the field (via ESPN.com):

“It’s disappointing, some of the things that happened,” he said, “but nevertheless, it’s a huge step for me. I put pads back on. A lot of people wrote me off just to even get to this point. I’m definitely emotional about it. I’m definitely happy about it. This isn’t the end goal for me, but I’m having fun again. I have a smile on my face.”

The Spring League has one more set of games, which will be held on Thursday. Manziel’s performance will likely determine whether he lands a second chance in the NFL or not.

If he doesn’t, the CFL is waiting, as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hold his negotiation rights.
