Johnny Football is mixing things up, or at the very least, he’s maturing as he ages.

During his Monday appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” the man formerly known as Johnny Manziel announced he has dropped a few letters from his name following his short-lived playing career in the AAF.

“I actually go by John these days,” Manziel said according to the show’s Andrew Perloff.

Admittedly, that’s not much of a change but maybe Manziel is hoping the NFL takes him more seriously in the months to come by showing he’s left the “Johnny Football” moniker behind him. Based on at least one coach that worked with Manziel in the AAF, that’s absolutely the case.

“I’m hoping and praying he gets another chance. My short experience with him was tremendous,” AAF QB coach and former NFL assistant David Lee recently said to the Toronto Sun. “I really, really like Johnny as a person. Boy, he’s got a fire in his heart. He loves football. Gosh, he loves it. And he wants to be good … He had been through hell and back from the time he left Texas A&M until the time he rolled into Memphis.”

Do you believe this change will make a difference for John?
