Johnny Manziel is following in the foot steps of Manti Te’o in the sense of a former college football star being the subject of a new Netflix documentary.

Manziel has a layered background worthy of a full length documentary, starting with his 2012 Heisman Trophy season. Manziel collected an SEC-record 4,600 yards of total offense on his way to becoming the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy.

Manziel passed for 3,419 yards and 24 touchdowns and added 1,181 yards with 19 TDs rushing. The memorable game in his Heisman resume came when he led the Aggies to a 29-24 upset of No. 1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, when he had 345 yards of total offense and several highlight-reel plays.

He then had a troubled pro career that started with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him at No. 22 in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Manziel in his career made an obscene gesture on the field, faced questions about his immaturity and lack of commitment, made a visit to rehab and reports surfaced of partying in Las Vegas amid supposed concussion recovery, as his NFL career ended in 2 seasons. He started 8 games for the Browns, and went 2-6 with 7 touchdown passes and 7 interceptions in 2014 and 2015.

Manziel later played in the Canadian Football League and the Alliance of American Football in 2018-19.
