It may have taken over 59 minutes but Texas A&M finally seized the lead against Florida and protected it in the closing minute of the game to beat the Gators 19-17 in The Swamp.

The game-deciding play came with 58 seconds left on the clock, as Aggie kicker Daniel LaCamera nailed his fourth field goal of the night. Florida freshman quarterback Feleipe Franks was intercepted on the ensuing possession to seal the Gators’ fate.

Immediately after the game, Kevin Sumlin shared his thoughts on his team’s performance in a tough road environment.

“Well, give Florida credit, they stifled us on offense we made just enough plays at the end to just get out of this place,” Sumlin said. “It’s a heck of an atmosphere, SEC football at night you know. You take them any way you can.

Sumlin was then asked about his mentor, former Purdue coach Joe Tiller. Tiller recently died and Sumlin attended his funeral in Wyoming this week. Sumlin played at Purdue for Tiller and would later land his first coaching job on one of Tiller’s staffs.

“I was able to get out there to the funeral. Got back halfway thru practice… Joe’s a big part of my life, outside my dad, no man has had more of an effect on me, as a player, as a coach,” Sumlin said. “It was a tough week.”
