Kirk Herbstreit joined “Pardon My Take” on Barstool Sports this week to talk about what this college football season will bring.

In the episode, he mentioned what the season could hold for Longhorn and Aggie fans alike.

Specifically, he described the differences between the atmospheres in Austin and College Station:

Here’s what he had to say about Longhorn fans:

“One thing I’ll add to this as just a little bit of a caveat,” said Herbstreit. “They’re not as passionate about sports. You know how with Michigan they have great fans, but compared to Madison or State College or Columbus or Iowa, it’s almost like: ‘We went to the game but we’re running companies are we’re doing other things. We got other things going on besides football. Our lives are bigger than if we win on a Saturday.’ Well in Madison, Columbus and State College, their lives are predicated upon what happened last Saturday. In Michigan they got more things going on it seems like. That’s what Texas feels like when you go to Austin. They’ll show up and if the teams winning it’s a fun thing to do and they’ll go to the game.”

Herbstreit also described what it’s like to be at a game at College Station.

“You go to A&M, holy cow,” said Herbstreit. “Texas A&M, it’s a religion right? I don’t know if the passion and the support is in Austin the way it is in some of these other places.”

Lastly, Herbstreit mentioned the Mack Brown Era at Texas and how much different the atmosphere is now.

“When you got Vince Young and Colt McCoy and you’re ranked third in the country or first in the country when you’ve got big plays and big action and it’s a fun thing to do, absolutely,” said Herbstreit. “What I’m talking about is when it’s not that way. Texas A&M they got Johnny Manziel, but when he leaves, (the fans are) coming back that next year ready to roll. There’s no dips.”
