Former Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett has reportedly enrolled at Palomar Junior College in California Thursday, a source close to the quarterback told 247Sports.

However, Barnett will only attend the junior college through the spring semester, which ends May 27, before transferring to an FBS school where he’ll be able to play for most of the 2017 season. Now that he’s enrolled at Palomar, Barnett is eligible to speak with any college directly, including SEC programs since Alabama cannot block his transfer request.

According to 247Sports, Barnett has already been contacted directly by Texas A&M, which would mean a return to the SEC West. The Aggies will also have an opening at quarterback next season with starter Trevor Knight currently in his last year of eligibility.

Barnett’s high school coach Jeff Steinberg, told 247Sports that he has been contacted by Pac-12 schools Oregon, UCLA, Washington and Cal about his former quarterback. The former Alabama backup is a native of Corona, California and could be intrigued to stay on the West Coast.

Michigan State, Miami and Florida have also expressed interest in Barnett, according to 247Sports.

“I could see him narrowing it down fairly quickly,” Steinberg said of Barnett’s recruitment, “and trying to make a decision by Christmas.”

Barnett redshirted in 2015 and was named the starter in Alabama’s season opener after a long offseason QB battle with Jalen Hurts and Cooper Bateman. However, he was replaced by Hurts after two offensive possessions, who emerged as the Tide’s starter moving forward.
