BREAKING: Kevin Sumlin tabs one-time LSU assistant and former Louisville head coach Ron Cooper as new Texas A&M Defensive Backs coach
— Billy Liucci (@billyliucci) February 2, 2017
Cooper was the head coach at Louisville from 1995-97, where he finished with an overall record of 13-20. Most recently, Cooper has been coaching the defensive backs and linebackers at FIU, as well as being the team’s defensive coordinator in 2016. When head coach Ron Turner was fired, Cooper became the interim head coach.
The 54 year-old Cooper coached with John Chavis at LSU from 2009-11. Cooper was also the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State in 2003, and he coached at South Carolina from 2004-08. So, he’s certainly familiar with the SEC.
Former defensive backs coach Terry Joseph was hired at North Carolina last month.
A graduate of the University of Florida and founder of Saturday Down South, Kevin is a college football enthusiast.
