Tailgates are a fun way to get ready for that day’s college football game, but they also sometimes bring out the worst in people.

That was certainly the case in College Station on Saturday, where a 57-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hitting a 21-year-old with a hammer at a tailgate spot.

According to KXXV, the A&M fan was arrested for hitting the younger fan in the arm with a hammer:

A Houston man was arrested in College Station after he hit a 21-year-old with a hammer during a tailgating spot dispute on Friday.

Police said the argument began when 57-year-old Robert Patterson removed the 21-year-old’s stakes from the ground that outlined the area claimed for tailgating at the football game the following day.

When police arrived at the tailgating spot near the Texas A&M University Student Rec Center, the victim had a visible red spot on his arm from the hammer.

Police suspect Patterson had been drinking before the incident, and he now faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
