Jimbo Fisher’s influence on the Texas A&M program is undeniable. Though that might not translate into as many wins as some had hoped for at this point, there’s no question that Fisher is making his mark in just his 2nd season as head coach of the Aggies.

He’s bringing in athletes who can contribute immediately and begin to build a solid foundation. Sure there will be some growing pains; the Aggies’ win/loss record is indicative of that, but the overhaul is underway and on the fast track if the stars from the Class of 2019 are any indication.

Here are just 5 of the players from that recruiting class, ranked No. 4 nationally by 247sports.com, who in no particular order are having an immediate impact and figure to be among the team leaders in the years to come.

1. DB Demani Richardson

The 4-star from Waxahachie leads a rejuvenated secondary. At or near the bottom of the SEC in pass defense for the past 3 years, Texas A&M ranks 6th so far this season, reducing average yardage given up per game by more than 50 yards. Richardson is one of the reasons quarterbacks aren’t having near the success they had in 2018.

Richardson led the Aggies in tackles last Saturday against Mississippi State with 7, including 5 solo. It was the 3rd time this season that Richardson led the team in tackles. He also forced a fumble. For the season, Richardson has piled up 47 tackles and 1 interception.

2. TE Jalen Wydermyer

Figured to be the backup to Baylor Cupp, another 2019 standout recruit, Wydermyer has stepped in nicely for his injured classmate. His 52-yard touchdown catch and run Saturday was one for the highlight reel, bowling over Bulldogs defenders on his way to the end zone. It was his 5th touchdown of the season, which ties him for 2nd on the program’s all-time tight end TD list for a season.

Wydermyer has done an admirable job of filling in not only for Cupp, but for the big shoes of All-American Jace Sternberger, who is now with the NFL Green Bay Packers. Wydermyer has 15 catches through 8 games this season for 235 yards. His 5 touchdowns are tied for the team lead with RB Isaiah Spiller, yet another budding star from the class of 2019, who we will include here.

3. RB Isaiah Spiller

Like Wydermyer, Spiller has been thrown to the SEC fire because of injury to the original starter. The speedy 4-star from Spring already has flashed signs of his abilities. He has a couple of 100-yard rushing games and ran for 90 Saturday against the Bulldogs.

He has proven he can also catch a pass as well, hauling in 18 for 137 yards. Combined with Wydermyer, they have 10 of 13 touchdowns scored this season by freshmen.

4. DE DeMarvin Leal

After a slow start because of an injury that kept him out of spring practice, the 5-star prize recruit from Converse has more than made up for lost time. He turned in a career-high 6 tackles, including 0.5 for loss and added a QB pressure Saturday and is beginning to round into a force up front. For the season Leal has 17 tackles and 3 QB hurries in 7 games played.

5. OL Kenyon Green

The top-rated recruit in the Aggies’ class, according to 247sports.com, Green has started in all 8 games and figures to be the leader of the future for the OL. The right guard is still learning the speed of the SEC, but there is no doubt that he will become one of the top offensive linemen in the conference for years to come.
