Texas A&M picked up a much-needed verbal commitment from 3-star quarterback Connor Blumrick on Friday evening, filling the void left at the position that was left by former commit Tate Martell, who announced his plans to go in a different direction earlier this month.

Blumrick, who stands at a cool 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, serves as the No. 44 pro-style QB from the class of 2017. He reportedly was leaning toward committing to Ole Miss, but when the Aggies came with an offer following a visit last weekend, he couldn’t help but pull the trigger.

It was offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone that swayed Blumrick’s decision, as the two had a conversation earlier this week about how he would be an excellent fit for what Texas A&M wants to do on offense in the future.

“Coach Mazzone, he said he really likes my size,” Blumrick told GigEm247 earlier in the week. “He said every QB he’s coached has gone to the NFL and he doesn’t see anything different than that in me. He says he likes my upside a lot.”

Blumrick missed his sophomore season due to an ACL injury, but returned to the field in 2015 and was efficient. Per 247Sports, he completed 106-of-176 (60.2 percent) of his pass attempts for 1,478 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions, adding an additional 263 yards with his feet.

Texas A&M now boasts seven commits for the 2017 class, which ranks No. 30 nationally and 7th in the SEC. Blumrick becomes the first quarterback to join the Aggies for this particular group.
