With back-to-back rough drives in the Ole Miss game, Jimbo Fisher came close to benching QB Kellen Mond. After Mond had a fumble returned for a touchdown and threw an interception, Fisher entertained the idea of benching him to give QB Nick Starkel a chance.

Some Aggies fans may lack the patience of Fisher, though the coach’s decision appeared to be the right call as Texas A&M went on to win 38-24. Speaking with the media, TAMU TE Jace Sternberger made it a point to let everyone know that Aggies players have Mond’s back.

The way Sternberger sees it, it’s harder for the quarterback to have a perfect game.

“For someone to be perfect on all 90 of those (plays), that’s very rare,” Sternberger said. “Kellen has so much that he has to do that (other players) don’t have to worry about – I’m so relieved.”

“Whenever he makes those mistakes, we’re like, ‘Hey man, relax – we’ve got your back.'”
