While neither Kellen Mond nor Nick Starkel signed with the Aggies to play for Jimbo Fisher, it hasn’t taken long for both quarterbacks to realize they potentially stand to gain the most from Texas A&M hiring the noted QB guru.

Fisher recently noted that each player is being given a fair chance to start this fall and they both will be given equal opportunities to earn the job before the season opener against Northwestern State.

“We’ll look at everybody, give everybody a fair chance, an equal chance — being with each group,” Fisher said. “I want to see how they react by leading a different group of people. Kellen has learned that right. There’s no starters — everybody is first-team.”

During their Wednesday media availability, the Aggie quarterbacks shared their thoughts on being coached by Fisher.

“It’s been insane how much I’ve learned from him,” Mond said.

It’s not just Fisher on staff teaching the Aggie quarterbacks, either, as A&M landed former Memphis assistant Darrell Dickey as the first offensive coordinator of the Fisher era in College Station.

Here’s what Mond had to say about learning from Coach Dickey:

Starkel has also bought in on Fisher and his coaching style.

“I love Coach Fisher. He’s bringing a whole new intensity here, a whole new mindset,” Starkel said.

Fisher’s unique style of coaching is one of the things that has caught Starkel’s attention this spring.

“It’s been awesome…it makes you really want to play for him, really want to compete for him,” Starkel said.
