Texas A&M didn’t start off fast, but finished fast against UL Monroe on Saturday night. The Aggies struggled on both sides of the ball in the first half before blowing the game open in the second half and eventually winning 48-10.

Jimbo Fisher is happy to get back into the win column after a close loss to No. 2 Clemson last week, but he knows it’s a long season and that his team still has some growing to do.

Here’s what Fisher said to the media following Texas A&M’s win:

“I’m proud of our team. Went out and did the things we needed to do,” said Fisher. “UL Monroe did a great job and played well. We can’t give up a drive right before the half. We did much better in the second half. Very efficient on offense, but we had four touchdowns called back. We took a next step forward, and got a little better in some areas…we’re not where we need to be, but we’re growing in that direction.”

Kellen Mond hurt the Warhawks defense with his feet and his arm on Saturday, and his development has definitely been one of the sweet spots of the Aggies’ season thus far.

“The calls, the checks, the things (Mond) did, he got us in and out of a lot of plays,” said Fisher. “He’s doing a really good job and is playing really good football and smart football. That’s the key.”

While the Aggies didn’t turn in a complete performance on Saturday night, Fisher knows that’s just a part of football.

“You’re never as sharp as you want to be. We have a lot of room to grow.”

Several Texas A&M players were injured in the game, and Fisher offered updates on their status moving forward.

“(WR) Kendrick Rogers should be good to go. (PK) Daniel LaCamera probably out for a while (fracture in the foot). (DB) Keldrick Carper will hopefully be back this week. (C) Erik McCoy might have light sprain, but no torn ACL.”

Texas A&M travels to Tuscaloosa next week for a matchup with No. 1 Alabama.
