If you’ve been paying attention to the massive amount of post-spring and preseason college football power rankings, then you already know that a lot of people are really high on the Tennessee Volunteers in 2016.

Athlon Sports has Tennessee at No. 6 heading into the month of June. Campus Insiders lists the Vols at No. 9, and CFB News starts them out above Alabama at No. 3. ESPN television analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes they should be the favorite to win the SEC East, and the network’s SEC blogger, Alex Scarborough, thinks they’re a legitimate playoff contender.

Even though it’s early and summer camps have yet to begin, it seems as if just about everyone likes UT in their top 10 to start the season. Well, almost everyone.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones is a little hesitant to embrace that notion for now.

“They keep that away from me,” Jones said, per the Times Free Press. “With rankings it’s not where you start; it’s where you end. These rankings are really the benefit of last year’s football team, Team 119, and the way we finished strong with six consecutive wins and a great performance in the Outback Bowl. This football team, Team 120, has not accomplished one thing.

“We’ve not taken one snap, but I do like what I see so far.”

The Vols finished the 2015 season on a six-game winning streak, claiming their first nine-win campaign since 2007.
