Tennessee continues to attract elite Georgia talent to Rocky Top under Jeremy Pruitt with the latest addition coming from former Bulldog defensive back, Deangelo Gibbs.

Gibbs has been a long-time target for Tennessee but Pruitt managed to do what his predecessor could not and get the talented Peach State native to play in Knoxville. Coming out of high school, Gibbs was rated as a five-star prospect by ESPN and Scout while 247Sports Composite rated him as the nation’s No. 49 recruit in the 2017 recruiting cycle.

After playing defensive back in Athens for two seasons, Gibbs left the Georgia program for Tennessee. Gibbs will reportedly start his Volunteer career as a receiver, a position he played for Grayson High School on a team that won the Georgia State Championship.

Following his addition to the Tennessee roster, Pruitt released the following statement on Gibbs.

“Deangelo is a guy that I knew, and our staff knew in recruiting when he was coming out of high school,” Pruitt said via a release from the school. “He’s a guy that can play on either side of the ball. He’s very tough and has unique ball skills. He’s a very instinctive player, and he has size and speed. We are happy to have him at Tennessee.”

Gibbs is expected to sit out the 2019 season unless he receives an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA. Gibbs is the cousin of Tennessee safety, Nigel Warrior.
