The Philadelphia Eagles selected former Tennessee DE Derek Barnett with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and it’s safe to say they haven’t regretted it for a second.

In two preseason games, Barnett has shown flashes of brilliance, picking up a total of three sacks in those two contests.

Now, according to 247Sports, Barnett will get to spend more time with the first-team defense. Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson said he’s excited to see how the star pass rusher fares against top competition:

“It’s important. Obviously, better tackles, better competition is a sign of where you are in your development process,” Pederson said of Barnett. “But you could see how quick he is off the ball. You could see how well he bends. There’s just a relentless finish.”

The Eagles’ next game is against the Miami Dolphins in Philadelphia on Thursday night. It will be interesting to see how much Barnett plays and if he gets a lot of first-string action.
