It’s been a long strange journey for Tennessee native Emmit Gooden but there’s a chance his recruitment could end where it all started years ago.

Gooden committed to Tennessee and Butch Jones way back in February of 2014 only to decommitment weeks later. He later emerged as the Volunteer State’s top defensive lineman recruit for the 2016 recruiting cycle after landing scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Penn State among many others.

However, the 6-foot-4, 295-pound Gooden never made it to any of them, as he was forced to enroll at Independence Community College. 247Sports lists Gooden as a four-star and the No. 17 JUCO prospect in the nation for 2018. Interestingly enough, his final JUCO season was chosen as the upcoming season of Netflix’s documentary series Last Chance U, which is set to air next summer.

While at Independence, Gooden committed to Bret Bielema’s Arkansas program. With Bielema now out in Fayetteville, that threw yet another wrench in Gooden’s plans.

Now with Jeremy Pruitt taking over the Tennessee program, Gooden has just been re-offered by the Volunteers. It should be noted that Florida also recently offered the top JUCO lineman.

Where Gooden winds up remains to be seen, but it would be somewhat ironic if he signed with the school he originally committed to four years ago despite the wild ride it took to get there.
