Well, Tennessee’s 2018 QB competition just got a lot more interesting.

Former Stanford QB Keller Chryst committed to Tennessee late Thursday night. The graduate transfer QB shared a photo of the news via his Twitter account. Chryst plans to graduate from Stanford in June and be eligible to play this season. News of Chryst’s decision was first reported by FOX Sports Knoxville.

With Tennessee’s lack of experienced QBs — just two scholarship signal callers in Jarrett Guarantano and Will McBride on the spring roster, Chryst is certainly a huge boost for the position and gives the offense a veteran voice and experience.

The 6-foot-5, 234-pound signal caller started 13 games at Stanford over the past two seasons. During his career, he’s thrown for 1,926 yards, 19 TDs and six INTs. Chryst started seven games in 2017 and was eventually replaced by KJ Costello, who returns this season.

Exiting high school in the class of 2014, Chryst was rated a 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 3 pro-style passer, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
