Former Tennessee DB Micah Abernathy is getting another shot on an NFL active roster.

The Atlanta Falcons announced Wednesday that Abernathy has been signed to the 53-man roster. It was the club’s corresponding move after releasing safety Jaylinn Hawkins, who primarily contributed on special teams.

Abernathy played at Tennessee from 2015-to-2018. He went undrafted in 2019 but has kept at it in search of professional opportunities.

The Falcons signed Abernathy to the practice squad back in December. He has been on the team’s practice squad for the 2023 season. Abernathy was elevated to Atlanta’s active roster in Week 6, playing 18 of the Falcons’ special-teams snaps and recording 1 tackle.

Abernathy has bounced around over the years. He first signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. The same year, he also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts during the offseason.

In 2020, Abernathy played for the Dallas Renegades in the XFL. His next professional opportunity came with the USFL’s Houston Gamblers in 2022.

Abernathy returned to the NFL in August 2022, signing with the Green Bay Packers. He appeared in 2 games for the Packers last season, taking 1 defensive and 13 special teams snaps, recording no other stats.

The Falcons are on the road in Week 7, facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
