Malik Jackson must really love pets. The Jaguars lineman proved that recently by paying the adoption fees of 181 animals from the Jacksonville area during a two-day span earlier this month. His donation helped clear out the capacity shelters in the area.

This donation came about after the Jacksonville Humane Society had an adoption event at local PetSmart locations to help save the lives of the 181 pets. Jackson made the donation to help those interested in making the adoption process easier through his foundation, Malik’s Gifts.

Here is the foundation’s mission statement in regards to animal adoption:

Malik’s Gifts support the animal rescue community and their commitment to take unwanted, abandoned, abused, or stray pets and attempt to find suitable homes for them. We also believe it is important to support our community to bring about an end to the killing of abandoned and orphaned dogs and cats.

The former Tennessee lineman did more than simply provide money, however, as he greeted many of the pet adopters. The current Jaguar lineman also signed autographs and took photos with any fans that took home a pet. The timing of Jackson’s generous donation was perfect, as the shelters in Jacksonville were at capacity prior to this large adoption cycle.

After helping Denver win Super Bowl 50, Jackson signed a lucrative six-year, $90 million free agent contract with the Jaguars. Without a doubt, Jackson is doing his part to help make good use of the money he’s earned from Jacksonville’s football franchise.
