Former Tennessee running back Alvin Kamara is off to the fastest start among the New Orleans Saints rookies, ESPN staff writer Mike Triplett wrote Tuesday morning.

Kamara, who the Saints selected in the third round of the NFL Draft with the No. 67 overall pick, “has been turning heads on the practice field,” Triplett said. “The Saints traded up to draft the 5-foot-10, 215-pounder with visions of him in a ‘joker’ role similar to Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush.”

Kamara was impressive in his preseason debut against the Cleveland Browns, reeling off a 22-yard run to the outside after being stuffed at the line of scrimmage.

“It’s hard to predict too many carries for him as a rookie since he’s behind veterans Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson in the pecking order,” Triplett said. “But if he continues to shine, the Saints will find creative ways to use him.”

Kamara rushed for nearly 600 yards and nine touchdowns for the Vols in 2016. He also added almost 400 receiving yards and amassed over 300 total yards in a double overtime loss at Texas A&M.
