Tennessee landed the highest-ranked commitment of Jeremy Pruitt’s tenure Tuesday evening as 6-6, 293-pound Peach State native Wanya Morris pledged to the Vols over Auburn during a commitment ceremony.

It’s a huge pickup for Tennessee in many regards. Not only is Morris a top-50 overall prospect heading into his senior season for Grayson High School, but he potentially fills one of the biggest glaring weaknesses that exists on Pruitt’s inherited roster — offensive tackle. Ranked as the No. 7 offensive tackle prospect in the nation by 247Sports Composite Rankings, Morris is poised to be a Day 1 starter on Rocky Top.

SDS’s Tennessee insider Dan Harralson, @danharralson on Twitter, recently touched base with two coaches that know Morris better than most: his head coach, Christian Hunnicutt, and the offensive pass game coordinator/QB coach, Dante Williams.

There may not be two better people to ask regarding what Tennessee is potentially getting in their most recent commitment than these two coaches.

On Morris’s overall game and potential at the next level:

“He is clearly a guy that has an unlimited ceiling,” Grayson head coach Christian Hunnicutt told Harralson. “He has really worked hard this offseason and has been tremendous in the weight room as well as speed and agility training. He has a really high football IQ. In terms of his demeanor off the field, he is not a rockstar and has not gone Hollywood on anybody and is very humble and low maintenance. He is other-centered and has been a tremendous ambassador for our program on and off the field.”

On playing on the line and potentially at left tackle in college:

“He has great length and is constantly aware of the endless battles to improve foot quickness,” Hunnicutt added.

On what Tennessee is getting with the commitment of Wanya Morris:

“They are getting a great player and also someone that clearly has a great combination of competitiveness and an understanding of how he fits within the big picture,” his coach concluded.

Dante Williams – Offense Pass Game Coordinator/QB Coach at Grayson

On his leadership within the Grayson football team:

“Wanye is a great student-athlete for us at Grayson High School,” Grayson offensive pass game coordinator/QB coach Dante Williams said. “He has taken on the role as one of our main vocal leaders of the offense. He is as good of a player as he is on the field, he’s better young man off of it with a caring and positive attitude towards life that he carries every day.”

On just how good of an offensive line prospect Morris is:

“Wanye Morris is the best left tackle in the nation. There aren’t many young men his size, that can move the way Wanye does,” Williams added.
