Hendon Hooker ends streak, throws first interception of season
Hendon Hooker had a streak of not throwing an interception in 262 pass attempts, which was the third-longest streak in SEC history. But that ended late in the third quarter on Saturday against Alabama.
The pass came with 3:15 remaining on third down and 6 for the Vols from the Tennessee 41-yard line, and was picked off by DeMarcco Hellams, who also recorded his first interception of the season.
By that point in the game, Hooker was 15-for-23 passing for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Before the turnover, Hooker and Tennessee came into Saturday one of just 3 teams in the country without an interception at this point in the season. The others were Adrian Martinez and Kansas State and Chevan Cordeiro and San Jose State.
Hooker through 5 games this season completed 70 percent of his passes, for 1,432 yards with 10 touchdowns.
