We have some unfortunate news to share out of Norman as promising Oklahoma receiver Jadon Haselwood appears set to miss the upcoming college football season due to injury.

According to Joey Helmer of 247Sports, Haselwood has suffered a knee injury that is believed to be a torn ACL. Haselwood was a five-star prospect from Georgia in the 2019 recruiting cycle and signed with the Sooners over Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State and Miami. The Peach State native was at one time committed to Georgia but decommitted before signing with Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma program.

The rising sophomore was rated as the nation’s No. 4 overall recruit in the 2019 recruiting cycle. During his debut collegiate season, Haselwood caught 19 passes for 272 yards and a single touchdown, which came against South Dakota.

Aside from his history being recruited by SEC programs, Haselwood’s injury should be of note for Tennessee fans as the Vols are scheduled to travel to Norman to take on Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Sooners were already dealing with the departure of senior quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was a second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, but following this news, will be replacing four of the team’s top four pass-catchers from last season. The team’s No. 1 option, CeeDee Lamb, was a first-round selection in the draft while Nick Basquine and Lee Morris were seniors last season.

If Haselwood is out any significant period of time, the lone pass-catcher returning for the Sooners that rated among the team’s top five receivers last season will be the team’s second-leading receiver, junior Charleston Rambo.
