Not many are giving Tennessee much of a chance to be the first team to beat Alabama in 2018. In Las Vegas, the betting odds in some places is larger than four touchdowns.

But the good news is Tennessee did just defeat Auburn last week, which snapped an 11-game SEC losing streak. And the Volunteers will get the Crimson Tide on their own turf in Knoxville.

Even still, in order to beat Alabama, so many things have to go right. Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt listed several keys for his team in pulling off a huge upset against the No. 1 team in the country.

“We need to make very few mistakes,” Pruitt said in an interview with ESPN. “Don’t need to turn the ball over, we need to get some turnovers. We need to have success in the kicking game, limit explosive plays, and we need to create explosive plays.”

Pruitt coached under Nick Saban in Alabama for two seasons from 2016-17. In both seasons, the Crimson Tide featured the No. 1 scoring and total defense in the country, and it cultivated into a national championship last January.

If Pruitt and Tennessee pulls off the upset, it will be a first for former Saban assistants. The Alabama coach is 12-0 against former assistants.
