Tennessee fans don’t need to hear anything else from SEC Media Days as the best news they were going to get at the event came out immediately — Jeremy Pruitt says Trey Smith will be available for the Vols heading into fall camp.

When asked about Smith’s status at the main podium from SEC Media Days, Pruitt offered up these comments:

“Our doctors have done a fantastic job recognizing Trey had a condition in the spring that kept him out of practice. They diagnosed it, treated it. He’s going to be back in the fall. We’re excited to have him back. We can’t wait to get him back, and he’s excited about coming back. He keeps talking to me about, man, I missed all of those reps in the spring. I said I promise you, you’ll be fine.”

Coming off a Freshman All-American season, Smith was Tennessee’s most consistent and dominant player during his true freshman season in 2017. Unfortunately, the young offensive lineman suffered a setback due to an undisclosed medical condition during winter conditioning and was held out from all contact activities during spring football.

If Smith returns to the lineup at the same level or continues to elevate his game, in that event, you may need to pray for the defensive linemen of the SEC, he’ll lock down a starting spot on Tennessee’s offensive line heading into the first season of the Jeremy Pruitt era.
