Tennessee has made the decision to move on from Jeremy Pruitt as the leader of the Volunteer football program but that decision appears to have nothing to do with the product on the field in Knoxville during the coach’s tenure.

If you missed the news, Tennessee reportedly won’t be paying Pruitt a buyout as the results of the school’s internal investigation into alleged recruiting violations that occurred during his watch.

While Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that Tennessee won’t be paying Pruitt a buyout due to these violations, ESPN’s Chris Low and Mark Schlabach have not reported that news.

However, ESPN’s crew is reporting that Tennessee’s “investigation uncovered multiple alleged Level I violations” regarding extra benefits paid to recruits during trips to the Knoxville campus.

If you are unaware, Level I violations are the most serious and carry the largest punishment.

ESPN is also reporting that the recruitment of Georgia signee Amarius Mims is part of the investigation as well as Tennessee assistant coach Brian Niedermeyer.

Tennessee is scheduled to hold a press conference at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT to further address the situation in Knoxville and the decision to move on from Pruitt.

Pruitt finishes his time at Tennessee with a 16-19 overall record after finishing last season at 3-7.
