Tennessee welcomed two former touted high school prospects as transfers for spring practice.

Former 5-star Aubrey Solomon transferred to Tennessee from Michigan. The Georgia native and talented defensive lineman landed at Tennessee this semester, and Jeremy Pruitt was asked about his transition Friday after practice.

“Aubrey’s a guy that has done a really good job in five practices,” Pruitt told reporters, via 247Sports.com. “He’s improved every day. I think playing the different techniques and learning the different system, he’s done a good job. I think if he continues to work, the more times he does it, he’ll have a better understanding of our expectations and what we’re looking for. He’s just got to continue to work the rest of this spring.”

Solomon’s transfer caught Michigan by surprise, and Tennessee is no doubt glad to have him. Solomon’s eligibility is still up in the air for 2019.

Another former touted high school player who transferred to Tennessee is former Georgia defensive back Deangelo Gibbs. Gibbs, the former 4-star prep player from Georgia, is actually making a transition to wide receiver this spring.

He’s plenty talented and athletic enough to make a smooth transition to the position. Pruitt was asked about Gibbs Friday.

“Well, he played both in high school,” Pruitt said. “He’s a guy that probably, when he was recruited, could have played on either side of the ball. We started him off at wide receiver to see where he’s at, and he’s played defensive back or practiced at defensive back for the last two years, so we thought we’d start him there. He’s improved every single day, plays fast. He’s a big man, big hands, soft hands. We’ll continue to see how he progresses this spring.”

Like Solomon, Gibbs’ eligibility for 2019 is still up in the air. The NCAA will decide if either will have immediate eligibility this season.

The Vols could sure use them.
