Recruiting is all about relationships. Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt was willing to step outside of his comfort zone to form a bond with highly sought-after ATH Quavaris Crouch.

Crouch, a 4-star recruit who signed with UT last month, reveals that he and his future coach bonded over playing the popular “Madden NFL” video game online. The article by Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports notes that Pruitt even practiced before playing Crouch.

“I won,” Crouch said. “It was nice man. Amazing just to be able to do that. Not everybody gets the opportunity to do that.”

Obviously, this game wasn’t about competing.

“Really just having a relationship with Coach Pruitt mattered to me,” Crouch said. “To me that’s bigger than football.”

Crouch is rated the No. 39 prospect overall nationally in the 2019 class. Of the 19 Volunteers signees, his ranking is second-highest behind only 5-star OT Wanya Morris (No. 13 nationally). The UT class currently ranks No. 16 overall and No. 7 in the SEC.
