Former Tennessee AD John Currie was recently announced as the new athletic director at Wake Forest.

That’s a nice landing spot for Currie, considering the less-than-ideal way his tenure in Knoxville came to an end as he failed to hire a new football coach last offseason.

However, he still has a lot of friends at Tennessee, and during his introductory press conference on Monday, he revealed that Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes called him to wish him well (via KnoxNews.com):

Currie said he heard from several well-wishers tied to UT, including a phone call from Vols men’s basketball coach Rick Barnes on Sunday.

“We had a long conversation. He was really, really happy,” Currie said.

Fans weren’t happy when Currie tried to hire Greg Schiano last offseason, and after those protests, he couldn’t land any of his other targets.

Currie was then replaced by Phillip Fulmer, who hired Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt to lead the football squad.
