Former Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs’ first taste of NFL action could also be his first NFL start.

It’s only the preseason, but Dobbs could be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starter on Friday night against the New York Giants, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. With starting Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and backup Landry Jones both dealing with injuries, Dobbs has been getting first-team reps and is likely in line for the start on Friday.

Last week, Dobbs talked about how the first-team reps have helped his development.

“Every rep is a game rep,” Dobbs told Trib Live. “I have been able to get several more reps the last couple practices and I will continue to get more reps.

“Each rep is a learning opportunity – whether you make a great throw, or you mess up a read, you are able to learn from that opportunity and see how you grow and get better for the next rep.”

While Dobbs is expected to be Pittsburgh’s third-string quarterback this season, Vols fans and Steelers fans alike will have a great opportunity to see what the fourth-round pick can do with the starters as his supporting cast.
