Tennessee couldn’t pull off an upset in Gainesville this past Saturday night. The Vols fell to 2-2 as they took a 38-14 loss to Florida in their first SEC game of the season.

It isn’t quite how Tennessee hoped to open its first year under head coach Josh Heupel. But there’s still a lot of time left in the season, and there are some more winnable games coming up on the schedule, so perhaps things will go better in the near future.

On his weekly radio show “Vol Calls” on Wednesday, Heupel discussed how the Vols are bouncing back from their most recent loss heading into this Saturday’s game at Missouri.

“Guys have been really good. Disappointment in their faces when you walk off the field on Saturday night,” Heupel said on the show (h/t Patrick Brown of 247Sports.com). “You guys were talking about finishing, that’s so true, right? Finishing drives. Finishing games. Finishing our preparation during the course of the week. And not that we’re a long ways off, but man, the game, there’s so many subtle details in a play here, play there that changed the course of a football game that the little things add up and they matter and they turn into the big things that everybody sees.”

If Tennessee executes those “little things” better against Missouri, it could potentially come away with its first conference win of the season. The Vols have won each of the past 2 years against the Tigers and will be looking to keep that streak going.

Tennessee and Mizzou are set to kick off on Saturday at noon ET on SEC Network.
