There was no better rumor in the SEC last season than the Grumors coming out of Knoxville connecting Jon Gruden to the Tennessee job. The former Monday Night Football commentator was seen several times in Knoxville and caused a frenzy each time he surfaced in East Tennessee.

So much so, that the program’s former standout quarterback tried to get to the bottom of the rumors and reach out to the man in charge of Tennessee’s athletic program. When Joshua Dobbs touched base with the school’s former athletic director, John Currie brushed off the former Volunteer QB without a straight answer.

Give credit to Dobbs for at least waiting to ask the question after Butch Jones was relieved of his position, most Tennessee fans were ready to ask the question back in September after the team’s 41-0 loss at home to Georgia.

Here’s the exchange the two had back in November:

These messages were part of the massive document release by Tennessee following the settlement reached with Currie announced Thursday evening. The exchange was shared by SDS’s Dan Harralson on Twitter.
