Kirk Herbstreit shares his thoughts on Tennessee's decision to hire Jeremy Pruitt
While Tennessee did not lure a sitting head coach to Knoxville, as previously expected, it could be argued the Volunteers landed the best defensive assistant in the nation to take over an SEC program.
ESPN College GameDay host Kirk Herbstreit would appear to agree with that statement as he sent out a tweet Thursday morning offering his thoughts on the pending hire. The former Ohio State quarterback noted that Pruitt knows the SEC “very well” and has learned under arguably the greatest coach in college football history.
Here’s Herbie’s tweet:
Great job reporting on all these coaching hires the last couple weeks Chris—especially following this one with all the twists and turns.
Jeremy is a great coach who knows the SEC very well and will bring Nicks’s blueprint with him. OC hire is a big hire. https://t.co/MVdcmJRweZ

Anyone doubting whether Pruitt can carry over Saban’s defense to Tennessee should know he’s successfully done it at Florida State and Georgia. In fact, his FSU defense helped the Noles win the national title in 2013 and Georgia become the nation’s No. 1 defense against the pass under Pruitt before he went back to Alabama.
Herbstreit later added these thoughts once the news became official:
Tough. Familiar with the SEC. Big time recruiter. And will bring Nick Saban’s blueprint with him from Bama. And has some talent on the team he’s inheriting. Not starting over. https://t.co/OVAyBZWYrI
