Marquez Callaway has made sure to take advantage of every opportunity in his rookie season. The former Volunteer faced an uphill battle to make an NFL active roster as an undrafted free-agent but managed to impress New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton in an atypical offseason without preseason games.

New Orleans went into Sunday’s game against division rival Carolina without either of its top-two receivers, Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, which had Drew Brees looking at other pass-catchers. That was good news for Callaway, who led all Saints receivers with 8 catches on 10 targets for 75 yards. Coming into Sunday, Callaway had just 5 receptions for 50 yards on the year.

After the Saints’ 27-24 win, Callaway discussed his big day with reporters. Callaway acknowledged the absences at wide receiver and cited his teammate and fellow-former Volunteer Alvin Kamara.

“Just like Alvin say, next man up.”
