Dan Wolken’s favorite athletic director is reportedly in the discussion to land the vacant position at Maryland.

The disgraced former Tennessee AD lasted only eight months in Knoxville before being fired and replaced with current AD and former football coach Phillip Fulmer. Currie led arguably the most embarrassing coaching search in college football history, which included a fan revolt, publicly being denied by one candidate after another, his disappearance from his bosses in Knoxville, not to mention the smoke and mirrors involvement of Purdue coach Jeff Brohm — who may or may not have been offered and accepted the job before finding out contract details were changed following an agreement.

The former UT AD’s coaching search came to an end after offering Washington State coach Mike Leach the Tennessee job, a position Leach was prepared to accept, before the school ordered Currie to return to Knoxville to be fired. Fulmer was immediately named his successor, which led to the hiring of Jeremy Pruitt.

If that turn of events doesn’t impress Maryland, nothing will.

According to Baltimore Sun reporter Don Markus, Currie, along with Temple AD Patrick Kraft and Maryland’s acting AD Damon Evans, are the three finalists to land the permanent AD job in College Park.
