Greg Schiano has hinted at releasing his opinion on what happened last offseason when Tennessee nearly hired him as coach, but the Ohio State defensive coordinator again hasn’t released his full opinion.

Schiano told The Athletic that the near-hire by then-Athletics Director John Currie was “tough to stomach,” and said now is not the time to talk.

This isn’t the first time Schiano has hinted at the situation. About eight months ago, he told the Associated Press, “There will be a time. I really think there will be a time that it will be appropriate for me to speak about all of that.

“When I do, it will be good.”

Perhaps Schiano would give his side of how the situation unfolded with Currie, or the Volunteers fans who criticized his hiring and protested it.

A memorandum of understanding was reportedly signed by both parties and Tennessee had planned to introduce Schiano at a news conference. But when news broke that Tennessee was close to finalizing a deal with Schiano, there was public outcry among Tennessee fans, with people citing his connection to the Jerry Sandusky era at Penn State.

Several dozen people gathered on Tennessee’s campus to protest a potential Schiano hire, and they held signs with messages that included “Schia-NO.”
