The Tennessee Volunteers suffered another embarrassing home loss on Saturday afternoon to South Carolina, falling 15-9.

The Vols haven’t scored a touchdown at home since the UMass game, which isn’t a good sign for embattled coach Butch Jones.

On Monday morning, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum was asked on WJOX’s “The Morning Drive” if Jones is “absolutely finished” at Tennessee, and said he thinks that’s the case, but nothing will happen until after the Alabama game.

“Yes … I do think John Currie has made a good decision,” he said. “Let it ride this week. Go into battle and see what you do against Alabama. And if that game goes according to where Vegas has it, then what choice do you have?”

If Jones is fired after the Alabama game, who should replace him? Finebaum ran through several potential candidates for the job.

“Jay, that’s so difficult,” he continued. “I still think Jon Gruden is the swing in the dark at the piñata and hope to hit. I was with a couple of former players of Gruden yesterday and people that have worked with him. Nobody believes that Jon Gruden has any interest in recruiting. They just think it’s ‘oh hey, give me the job.’ Jon Gruden may not be what everyone thinks he is.

“So, then, you get to Chip Kelly. I do not think Chip Kelly is a realistic possibility. I think Chip Kelly probably has his eyes more out West. Is it Bobby Petrino? It certainly looks like his team is acting like Petrino has taken another job, doesn’t it? And then, do you go for Mike Gundy again, a Charlie Strong or a Justin Fuente? I know I gave you about six or seven names. But I don’t think we really know. That’s probably an uneducated answer, but it’s the best one I have.”

The Vols take on the No. 1 Crimson Tide on Saturday in a game that could get ugly. Whether or not Jones survives that game remains to be seen, but it’s not looking good for the embattled coach.
