After news broke that Butch Jones was fired the day after a 50-17 loss at Missouri, Tennessee continued to feel repercussions on the recruiting trail.

To wit: 4-star wide receiver Alontae Taylor (Manchester, Tenn.) and 3-star wide receiver Shocky Jacques-Louis (Milledgeville, Ga.) announced their decommitments from Tennessee on the day of Jones’ firing.

That brings the decommitment total to six since Oct. 4. The others are 5-star offensive lineman Cade Mays (Knoxville), 4-star safety Brendon Harris (Chattanooga), 4-star running back Lyn-J Dixon (Butler, Ga.) and 3-star wide receiver Jatavious Harris (Milledgeville, Ga.).

A couple others are supposedly still committed to Tennessee but have “re-opened” their recruitment. One such player is 3-star cornerback Tanner Ingle (Orlando).

Dorian Gerald, the No. 1 JUCO strong-side defensive end prospect (247Sports) is still a soft commit to UT, but has announced that he is re-opening his recruitment after being committed to the Vols since July 6. Gerald has visits scheduled to South Carolina on Nov. 18 and Louisville on Dec. 9.

Before the Missouri game, the Vols had seven 4-star recruits and it appeared that Tennessee would still sign at least five of them in the 2018 class. The early signing period runs Dec. 20-22.

Four-star quarterback Adrian Martinez told Saturday Down South during the week of his visit to Ohio State (Nov. 11) that he was going to enroll early at Tennessee and expects to participate in spring practices. So far, his commitment to Tennessee has not wavered following the visit to Columbus and the news of Jones’ firing.

Another 4-star in the 2018 class is in-state defensive lineman D’Andre Litaker from Murfreesboro (Riverdale).

Litaker remains all-in with Tennessee. He told Saturday Down South that he plans to arrive in Knoxville next summer as he continues to rehab his torn ACL suffered in September.

Litaker will join fellow in-state 4-star Tennessee defensive line commits Greg Emerson (Jackson) and Brant Lawless (Nashville) in the 2018 class.

“I’m really excited,” Litaker said of the trio. “We stay in contact every day like we live with each other. We are just looking forward to this journey. It is a blessing to all of us and we just can’t wait to be on the Hill and ready to work.”

No matter the coaching change, all three defensive linemen still see their future with the Vols.

“It’s a tough situation,” Litaker said. “But whoever Tennessee gets (as head coach), everything will work out and Tennessee will be back on top.”
