Former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Jancek is apparently headed to Colorado State.

Jancek has been hired by head coach Mike Bobo — potentially as the Rams’ new defensive coordinator — according to a FootballScoop report.

Hired at Tennessee by former coach Butch Jones in 2013, Jancek served as the Vols’ DC for three years.

Jones fired him after the 2015 season. Jancek’s defense ranked seventh in the SEC that season in total defense, as well as fifth in scoring defense, allowing 20 points per game.

Jancek was Jones’ defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, as well.

Before being hired at Colorado State, Jancek had been serving as an off-the-field consultant at Kentucky. Before that, he was coaching safeties at South Florida for the 2016 season.

Colorado State ranked eighth in the Mountain West in total defense this past season under Marty English, who retired after the Rams’ 31-28 New Mexico Bowl loss to Marshall.
